Recently I’ve become really enamored with La Chapelle de la Mission Haut Brion. For a second wine (that’s a wine made with the grapes that are considered not quite good enough for the grand vin a winery produces) this wine really kicked ass. It has great depth of black cherry fruit with hints of cassis and a beautiful herbal undertone that turns to tobacco in the finish. Great length and super silky finish. After tasting this wine, I also learned that the production of La Tour Haut Brion was stopped in 2006 and the juice from this location was now being blended into the La Chapelle de la Mission. This is possibly why the La Chapelle has such depth and character. But don't just take my word on this, Robert Parker recently released his reviews and gave this wine 89 to 90 points. Get yourself a bottle and taste it!

Rachel adds: Lately Bisceglia wines from Basilicata have really impressed me. As a southern Italian supporter, I have always been curious about the region of Basilicata. It does not receive recognition like neighboring regions - Puglia, Campania and Sicily. Basilicata's most well produced grape is the Aglianico del Vulture. It is 100% Aglianico and full in flavor. Bisceglia produces an Aglianico del Vulture that is smooth and well balanced. The winery of Bisceglia is situated near Mount Vulture which was an active volcano. The volcanic soil is rich with minerals and assists in creating well balanced wines that are a consistent pleasure.
