Super Popular (And With Good Reason)

Posted 01/22/2008 at 10:55 PM by Jeremy

2005 is going to go down as one of the most historic vintages for France this century. The wines coming from Bordeaux are unlike any vintage ever produced, full, rich, loaded with fruit and earth and extremely age worthy. Burgundy has just simply hit the jackpot. The reds are also loaded with fruit and have great acidity to back it all up making it justifiably one of the most sought after vintages for Burgundy due to the fact that Burgundy historically experience one great vintage every 10 to 20 years. Prices are high for both regions and demand has been tremendous; but I have to agree that all the hype is justified. The greatest of the great wines produced in this vintage will surely out live me (unless I'm still kicking around when I'm 100.)

Rachel adds: Alois Lageder whites are super-popular right now. Take a look at the wine lists from your favorite restaurant and most likely there will be a white wine from Alois Lageder on that menu.  Alois Lageder, whose family has been producing wines for over 150 years, doesn't view himself as a winemaker in fact he states: “We see our role more accurately as midwives and educators. Our duty is to bring our grapes into the world in good health with the greatest possible care, and to encourage the successful development of our wines at all stages." His Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Bianco deserve every accolade that they are given.
